Diving in Bunaken Island, Manado, Sulawesi
There are so many places throughout the archipelago that afford incredible diving on pristine coral reefs as well as sunken wrecks. Of course there are some areas in Indonesia where the seasons will affect the visibility when you dive. Storms tend to reduce visibility.
I will be posting numerous articles on dive sites throughout Indonesia. One island fabulous for diving is Bunaken. Here is what is available from the Bunaken Divers website:
Bunaken Divers – Sea Breeze Dive Resort
The resort is conveniently located just in the center of Bunaken Island National Marine Park. With comfortable bungalows just on the beach side, as well as having its own terrace, every bungalow has western style bathroom and toilet. From the bungalow’s terraces you can admire the wonderful gardens and view over the beach. Our open-air bar and restaurant, with its stunning view, offers western influenced Indonesian cuisine food. The menu consists mainly of sea food, chicken and vegetarian dishes with fresh local vegetables and tropical fruits. Meals are presented with buffet-style.
Bunaken Divers Dive Centre
Located in the Pangalisan Beach, east side of Bunaken Island. All the boats have O2, full safety equipment and sail to over 25 dive sites. Just a short walk away from the dive center is a very long reef – so long in fact you’ll need to dive or snorkeling here more than once if you want to see it all. What you will see is an array of beautiful soft corals and leather corals in the shallows, and a 35 meter wall, trimmed with fine lilac lace coral. There is plenty to delight the eye here and you may spot several different types of nudibranch as well as plenty of bright butterfly fish, including the ever-present crowds of pyramid butterfly fish and the odd green turtle meandering by.
Dive Course
Our Australiann Instructors teach PADI scuba dive courses from beginner to professional level. All scuba dive courses include the use of our dive equipment, books, videos and other teaching materials as well as the PADI dive certificate. We teach in small groups and the course schedule will be planned together with you to perfectly fit into your holiday plans. All scuba dive courses will take place in natural coral reef environment in the marine park.

Bunaken Island National Marine Park in Manado is to be among some of the highest levels of biodiversity in the world, with outstanding fish variety and world-class wall diving. The clear, warm waters contain astonishingly high numbers of species, whether corals,sponges or fish.
When you are scuba diving in Bunaken you can see seven times more genera of coral than Hawaii, 33 species of butterflyfish and over 70% of all fish species known to the Indo-western Pacific. Bunaken scuba diving is very popular with fun divers and marine biologists both of whom can take great pleasure from the diversity of coral and fish found here. You will surely encounter marine life here that you have not come across elsewhere.
The park is located just out of Manado Bay in the Sulawesi Sea, off the northern tip of Sulawesi, and features some two dozen diving sites spread across an area of 75,000 hectares and the five islands of Bunaken, Siladen, Manado Tua, Montehage and Nain.
