Waroeng Beach Club: Kuta, Bali

mini-clbo8-b-732.jpgDuring my recent sojourn to Bali, I was fortunate to find a fabulous restoran located directly opposite Kuta Beach, the Waroeng Beach Club. Although only opened for the last year, this place has everything you will need to enjoy a leisurely meal in comfort – panoramic views of the ocean, good music, great food, spacious and comfortable furnishings, friendly staff, and best of all, it is an open-air restoran. Or, if you like, lounge around on one of the settee’s and enjoy a drink from the extensive bar. Located next to McDonalds restaurant on Jalan Pantai Kuta, Waroeng Beach Club is situated on the first floor overlooking Kuta Beach and the crystal blue ocean. It is the view alone that gives pleasure to any person dining there. The one thing that I found particularly interesting was the late afternoon BBQ’s on the beach. What a way to relax in Bali!.

The music at Waroeng Beach Club varies and there is something for everyone. On Monday, Thursday and Friday nights it is live jazz, and, being a lover of jazz I absolutely enjoyed the jazz nights I went to Waroeng. On the other nights a DJ spins the music to the early hours. Waroeng Beach Club has an extensive wine list and if that’s to your liking, then relax in comfort, watch the golden sun set into the ocean and sip on cold glass of white wine. Or, if beer is your flavour, then there are various brews available. The numerous times I dined there, both for lunch and dinner, I found the food to be of excellent quality and value for money. Their menu list is brilliant. The Waroeng has what they call a ‘Pizza Factory’. They use their own combinations of toppings or choose the toppings you like. Average large pizza is around Rp30,000. Besides the Pizza Factory other foods include sandwiches (good value and tasty!), soups, salads, chicken dishes and curries. I particularly liked the Tapas. One afternoon, for lunch, I ordered Garlic and Pesto bread and was served with a ten inch roll topped with pesto and just the right amount of garlic inside. Delicious!.

mini-clbo8-b-634.jpgThe extensive menu also has a tasty selection of Indonesian dishes (try the Satay – spicy and moorish!). I have tried all the Indonesian dishes at the Waroeng Beach Club and found every one to be scrumptious, and, big servings. The Nasi Tumbal Sunda (Sudanese mixed rice wrapped in a banana leaf with crispy chicken, fish, tempe, tofu and lalap) is great value at Rp30,000 as is the Nasi Rawon (Javanese beef stew with eggs and bean sprouts). I liked the Ayam Goro Goro (fried crispy chicken with a spicy sambal and lalap), and I definitely enjoyed the Ikan Acar Kuning (wok-fried fish and vegetables on tumeric gravy). What you have to taste is the Gule Kambing (stewed lamb Madurese style and served with nasih putih) and great value at Rp30,000.

I would thoroughly recommend a visit to the Waroeng Beach Club. It’s a great place to meet people, relax and have a chat or dine on some very tasty food. Then of course, there is that sunset!
