Traders Relocated: Banten Lama, West Java

Banten Lama is an historical city and is now part of the Serang Regency located north of the city of Serang and was once the capital of the Indonesian Sultanate of Banten. Like so many historical sites in Indonesia, hawkers and traders can become a pest.

Hundreds of traders running semi-permanent kiosks along the road to the Banten Islamic Kingdom heritage site have been relocated to the carparks and I suppose mainly because many people visit to pay their respects and prayers at the graves of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin and his descendants.

The new location is within a recently built parking lot for visitors to the historic site in Kesunyatan village in Serang regency. The Banten provincial and Serang regency administrations had jointly built 700 new kiosks to accommodate the traders.
