Symposium to Help Kotagede: Yogyakarta, Central Java

The 4th International Field School for Asian Heritage (IFSAH) and the International Symposium on Asian Heritage Conservation are to be held in Yogyakarta from Feb. 17-25.

The field school will be jointly organized by the Center for Heritage Conservation of Gadjah Mada University’s Department of Architecture and Planning, the Urban Design and Conservation Research Unit (UDCRU) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s Faculty of Built Environment, the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Held as a forum to exchange experiences in cultural heritage planning and management across Asian countries, the 4th IFSAH aims to assist the Jogja Heritage Society and Gadjah Mada University’s Centre for Heritage Conservation in finding the best solution to conserve the Kotagede heritage settlement, which was damaged by the May 2006 earthquake.

Professionals, students and others who are actively involved in urban conservation are invited to join the symposium, which will accommodate a total of 40 participants.
