Self-Sufficient Villages: Indonesia

It was delightful to read in the Antara News yesterday about government plans to increase the number of energy-self-sufficient villages in the country from 140 now to 2,000 by the end of the United Indonesia Cabinet`s tenure in 2009.

Basically, this means that an energy-self-sufficient village is a village capable of meeting its own energy needs and in the process creating job opportunities, reducing poverty and inducing productive activities.

This has to be good not only for the villagers but for prospects of cultural or alternative tourism, and perhaps, eco-tourism.
