Rice Farmers: Indonesia
Rice farmers often have to live through gloomy times. At least that is the situation in Indonesia, the majority of whose population eats rice as a staple. Here, farmers have to deal with great challenges due to unpredictable weather, the ever-increasing price of fertilizer or pesticide, and heartless brokers — not to mention lack of support from the government.
Very often, farmers have to spend a lot to produce rice but see little benefit at harvest time due to speculation by greedy profiteers.
Farmers lead tough lives working the land, even though their earnings may be small after months of hard toil.
