Police Launch Web Site: Bali

The Bali Police announced the launch of its first Web site (www.bali.polri.go.id) in an effort to provide the public with a greater opportunity to monitor and evaluate the force.

“The Web site will feature various information, including recent developments in various high-profile cases we are currently investigating,” Bali police spokesperson Sr. Comr. AS Reniban said.

The highlight of the site, Reniban, added would be a real-time visual update on the security situation at the island’s eight high-priority areas. The areas are considered to have a higher level of vulnerability to security and terrorist threats. Ever since the terrorist bombings in 2002 and 2005, the local police in those areas have stayed on alert as the article in the Jakarta Post explains.

Included in those eight areas are Ngurah Rai International Airport, Gilimanuk harbor and Padang Bai ferry port.

“By logging in into the Web site the internet user can view the images, real-time images, transmitted by various surveillance cameras in the areas,” Reniban added.

The users can also file their evaluation and criticisms of the police’s performance through the Web site.

“The user could even submit a formal police report or complaint through the site. We want this site to be an active communication channel that continuously connects us with the people,” he said.
