Or, if you prefer, you could always stay at one of the wildlife education centres that are scattered around the archipelago. One really great place is the Petungsewu Wildlife Education Center (P-WEC), an informal education centre dedicated to the concern of wild animal and its habitat.
P – WEC is located on the cool foot of the Kawi mountain in the Petungsewu village. Located 10 kilometres from the centre of Malang, its setting is one of village life and agriculture. Next to P- WEC is the Animal Rescue Center Petungsewu which has become a temporary quarantine centre for confiscated animals. P–WEC is located between Sumberbendo and Petungsewu villages. As you travel to the centre, you will pass by coffee and orange plantations.
This is a type of travel not suited to everyone as guests can acquaint themselves with many village activities such a farming, cow breeding, planting, cow milking, cow husbandry, and all in a traditional village atmosphere.
There are three hostel at the centre – Siamang Hostel, Orangutan Hostel, and the Lutung Jawa Hostel with a capacity of 128 people. There is also a guesthouse which comfortably houses 5 people.. All P-WEC hostel are designed as stage hostel. That is, they are made from wood to raise you to the nature height and atmosphere of the place.
