Merti Code Ceremony: Yogyakarta, Central Java

Today in Yogyakarta you will be able to witness the Merti Code ceremony, also known as the Code Village Purification ceremony. It is held by the villagers of Code Utara to show their gratefulness to God for the blessings the Code River has given them.

The climax of Merti Code is a parade of men carrying sacred lances, Tombak Kyai Ranu Murti, and the ceremony will also include performances of traditional arts. There is also a Gunungan that is carried through the parade and a scramble afterwards to get to it.
