Jungle Ulua Fishing Adventures

I can recall many times when I lived in Cairns, Queensland, in Australia and going out in a boat owned by a friend of mine to do some big-game fishing. It was exciting, even exhilarating, but, when we finally hauled the large fish onto the boat, I almost felt like a criminal for invading the daily life of the poor creature. Naturally, all the fish that we caught were released back into the sea except the few we kept for a delightful repast. Sure, I enjoy fishing but I also enjoy the challenge of getting to a remote place to imbibe in this pastime. There are two guys, Michael Owen and Cyrus Boyum who have been successfully fishing the Islands of Indonesia for many years. Their choice of fish is one of the greatest sports fish, the Giant Trevally or as it is known in Indonesia, Ulua. Over time these two guys developed not only a unique friendship, but also a great company where guests could combine the passion of high adventure with fishing and developed the only fishing jungle safari offered worldwide – Jungle Ulua Fishing Adventures.

This company offers what I believe to be the ultimate in adventure and sport. This adventure, by the way, is not for the feint-hearted or the average happy camper or even trekker. Here is a little from their website explaining what is entailed:

For the most part casting and spinning from virgin beaches and exposed reefs. This exclusive adventure is limited to 4 guests per month (generally 2 per trip) which enhances the experience and ensures quality fishing.

The logistics that go into making this adventure comfortable and safe are as complicated as any expedition into some of the most remote corners of the world. Electricity, endless amounts of hot fresh water and toilets are left behind once you leave the base camp. Due to the isolated location and the fact that porters are used to carry in supplies, your accommodations become a quality back country campsite for the days you fish. However, our back country campsite is hardly roughing it!! Enjoy a bottle of fine red wine, smoked salmon and a selection of cheeses at the end of the day. Settle your appetite with the catch of the day complimented by our international side dishes, all prepared by your guides. After dinner gaze at the Southern Cross and Milky Way or watch a bon fire while reflecting on the days experience. Retire to your private tent to ensure a comfortable nights sleep serenaded by the sounds of the sea and jungle. Live and fish your wildest dreams.

Jungle Ulua Fishing Adventures makes it happen in style!!

Precaution Statement:

This is an adventure into relatively remote, untouched and wild jungle. YOU ARE OUT THERE !! It is not for the timid or inexperienced fisherman. We will get a feeling for your abilities and fitness levels before we accept you as a guest on this adventure. Safety is always a prime consideration everyday we guide you to the fish; however, conditions can go from placid to extreme on a daily or hourly basis. Beginners or unfit individuals are discouraged. If you do not feel physically fit to walk long stretches this may not be the adventure for you.

Due to the unique characteristics of this remote stretch of coastline, only some spots present themselves fishable during the extreme tidal phases of the new and full moon, hence our schedule is normally made in conjunction with these times to give your stay with us optimum fishing potential and challenges.
