Indonesian Nuclear Fallout a Possible Threat

I don’t know about you, but, I have seen enough documentaries regarding the nuclear fallout at Chernobyl and its affects to realise that nuclear energy does have its drawbacks. People die!. That is, if anything untoward happens to the reactors.

The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) said a university study 13 years ago – when Indonesia last raised the prospect of a nuclear power station – found the north of Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland “would be at substantial risk of receiving radioactive fallout” in the event of a major reactor failure.

There are many more alternatives to nuclear power but it seems that governments around the world opt for the easiest without realising the consequences should a reactor failure occur. Harnessing the wind, tidal flow and thermal energy to mention just a few.
