Garuda Crash Update: Yogyakarta, Central Java
It appears my source was correct but unfortunately there has been casualties and fatalities.
Here’s the latest from AlertNet:
Forty-nine people have been confirmed dead in a plane crash at the airport of the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta, a government official told Reuters on Wednesday.
“We found 48 dead bodies at the spot. One person died at Sardjito hospital,” provincial secretary Bambang Susanto said, referring to the city’s main medical centre.
I have flown into and out of that airport more times than I care to remember and it is a hazardous one, especially during bad weather. Perhaps now the Aviation Commission will call for an overhaul of all airlines flying domestically in Indonesia. And, no doubt, the pilot will cop the blame. Same old scenario in situations like this.
