Don’t Buy Illegally Logged Goods!
A year ago I watched a documentary about a group of environmentalists who tracked tress felled illegally and converted into logs ready for shipment. This occurred in the Amazon jungle. The specially marked logs were shipped to Europe and delivered to a renowned and respected furniture maker, who often spouted that their products were never made from illegally obtained logging.
If we can then it is important to the future of forests around the world if we only buy products that are produced from timber legally logged. Indonesia appealed to world consumers to stop buying products made from illegally logged wood, and said rich countries should pay the poor to preserve forests in the battle against global warming.
Environmentalists say illegal logging in Indonesia strips 2.1 million hectares (5.2 million acres) of forest every year in a trade worth $4 billion.
