Bangau Food Festival: Jakarta, West Java

Food lovers will be able to try dishes from around Indonesia at the two-day Bangau Food Festival to be held in Jakarta at the end of the month.

Around 45 traders will participate in the festival, which will be open to the public at the Bung Karno Sports Hall in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on June 29-30.

The annual event, which is being held for the third time in the city, will feature traditional foods and drinks, including original Betawi cuisine such as ketoprak (rice wrapped in coconut leaves with peanut sauce), soto tangkar (meat soup with coconut milk), gabus pucung (snakehead murrel stew) and asinan (vegetable and fruit salad with crackers).

Visitors can also enjoy traditional food from North Sumatra, West Java and East Java.

“Through this festival, we want to preserve our rich culinary heritage amidst a flood of foreign food and products,” Heru Prabowo, senior brand manager of soy sauce producer and event organizer Kecap Bangau told a press conference as the article in the Jakarta Post explained.
